Mileage per Gallon
Sports cars are built for speed, not comfort. Some prefer to drive in the fast lane watching the other cars go by which makes these people go to a dealer and buy one. There are other reasons why a person will prefer to buy one brand over the other. This can be the appearance of the vehicle, the smart engine onboard, or how fast it can accelerate in less than 10 seconds.
With the price of fuel going up, people are more conservative about buying a sports car and one of the main questions that a customer will ask the sales person is how many miles per gallon of fuel does the car consume.
For comparison, 2 cars will be chosen and the figures given will be based on the records of the Department of Energy.
One car that is very well known throughout the world and is one of the best sports cars ever made is the 2003 BMW Z4 Roadster. This car uses premium gas and gets 20 miles per gallon for city driving and 28 miles per gallon on n the highway or an average of 23 miles per gallon.
Another good brand that is known worldwide is Jaguar. Its sports car, the 2004 Jaguar XK8, gets 18 miles per gallon in city driving conditions and 26 miles per gallon on the highway for an average of 21 miles per gallon.
As the figures show, one is able to use less gas in city driving conditions while the other performs better in the highway. The figures above are not definite since the fuel economy varies and is dependent on how the person drives the sports car.
There are many other sports cars in the market that one can compare before choosing the right vehicle to drive off the dealer’s lot. The deciding factor will then depend on a person’s preference.
The sports car is truly an amazing machine that will keep the driver and passenger on the edge of there seats at all times. Though there is not that much difference between these 2 sports cars, the gasoline mileage per gallon is an important factor that people will think about before choosing to buy one sports car over another.

It is definitly smarter to think about fuel mileage when purchasing a sports car. Why buy a car that has the same performance as another one that wastes less fuel?

For the Jaguar XK8 being such a nice sports car i’m suprised it actually has decent MPG.

good article, but I think that people purchase a sports car either have the income to pay for the extra gas they take, or purchase it as an extra vehicle, rather than their daily commuter.

My personal preference is Jaguar instead of BMW. I like BMW in other flavors like luxury but Jaguar is the best sports car on this planet. I can ignore a few miles per gallon for that.

Your lucky, my mr2 is now parked in the garage and I’m back to cycling to work, fuel here (UK) has gone through the roof.
It was costing me £25.00 ($50) to go backwards and forwards to work, and its only a 10 min cycle away.

Sport cars are awsome but what we need are Sport cars that runs in ethanol. Here in Brazil 90% of the cars are sold today with the possibility to run on ethanol. It makes the car more powerful(about 20%) and don’t polute as gas.

Facinating. I recently purchased a 2006 CLS 500. I had to drive it 900 miles from Arizona to Colorado, impressivley got 25 mpg, I also noticed 18 - 20 in the city.

yeah, gas prices are so high, i think more ppl are worried about saving money than driving fast cars, but then again, i could be wrong.

When buying a sports car or any other car, running costs shouldn’t play a big part in your decision. If you can afford a sports car, you probably can afford the running costs. If you can’t afford the petrol or gas, should you be looking at a sports car in the first place. Don’t forget insurance and registration. Just my 2 cents, cheers Thomas.

I would think that people who are thinking about buying a sports car would not be worried about the gas mileage too much. If you’ve got the cash for a sports car surely you can afford the gas?

MPG is not a big deal, its more about how you drive the vehicle. Example small car with 40mpg driven hard will do worse in a tracking event than a V8 vehicle because the vehicle is super slow.

There are some sports cars that do get some decent if not good gas mileage. Like the Lotus. They have several 4 cylinder models that are great on gas mileage. Renault also had the Alpine which was an amazing car and was great on gas.
